Ravers attend Ravenscoon and Calvin Stanley events

The Buffalo EDM scene had a jam-packed weekend of events. Including dubstep artist Ravenscoon, with an after party played by Calvin Stanley on Friday night, both hosted by MNM Presents.

San Francisco DJ and producer Paul Conversano aka Ravenscoon brought his "Periphery" tour to Iron Works with support by Super Future, Meduso, and REZI. Super Future, Meduso and Ravenscoon are all signed to popular EDM label Wakaan.

"That. was. nuts," said Colin Wilson. "I've seen him like twenty times and I think that might have been my favorite set of his. I feel like I'm floating right now."

Conversano's two hour set journeyed through many genres including hip hop, drum and bass, dubstep, and melodic dubstep, and concluded his set extolling the virtues of the EDM community.

"Be kind to yourself. Be kind to those around you.," said Conversano. "This is what it's all about. What we have here is special and we have to keep doing what we can to spread love and keep this community thriving."

Alek Slon, aka REZI was the first opener, and had an extended set to celebrate his last show in Buffalo. Slon was a mainstay in the Buffalo dubstep scene, frequently opening for large artists, and maintaining a close relationship with MNM Presents owner Mike Marshal, who also acts as his talent manager.

Slon recently moved to Columbus, OH in pursuit of deep dubstep, a subgenre characterized by a slower BPM, more sub-bass frequencies, and a less aggressive style of sound design than Slon typically plays.

"Columbus is where it's happening," said Slon "I love Buffalo and I'll be back for sure but it's just where you want to be if you want to find good deep dub. I have a lot of friends out there and the shows they play are insane."

Attendees also had the opportunity to attend after-parties following the conclusion of Ravenscoon's set. Dubstep artist Robert Balotsky, aka BUKU, took his techno alias "Calvin Stanley" for a spin at Mohawk Place for a "lights out, no phones, reinforced sound" set.

"I'm extremely f--king hype for Calvin Stanley," said Danny Schuster. "The lights outs are always such a vibe and I know that dude is going to have me shaking my ass."

These types of sets are not new to MNM Present's lineups, but have never hosted a techno artist before. The event was specifically structured to begin 15 minutes after Ravenscoon's set ended, giving ravers the opportunity to see both headliners.

"We've structured it so you can hit both of us tonight," said Balotsky on Instagram. "So go see Ravenscoon and then come to Mohawk to see my techno alias. I've been working on this for a long time and I'm excited to show you guys."

Buffalo based promotion company Bass Terminal hosted their own "After Hours" event featuring Fe'netiks, McThuggin, and ROZAY.

"I was so torn between which afters to go to," said Ravenscoon attendee Sierra Murphy. "I love BUKU but I have to support my boys at Luna."

Saturday also featured events by both companies. Headliners Moody Good and Stooki sound visited Rochester through MNM Presents, and Yakz and Ivory came to Luna Lounge courtesy of Bass Terminal.

MNM Presents has a slate of major EDM artists coming to Buffalo and Rochester in the coming months such as Subtronics, Excision, Boogie T.rio, MUST DIE!, Wreckno, and more. Bass Terminal is bringing riddim up-and-comer Hukae and house mainstay Bijou for back to back weekends in November.
